LITTLE BLACK DRESS, PART I by Lake Palen

Black dresses had been around for a long time before Coco Chanel introduced her abbreviated, liberated version to the world in the 1920s. What became known as "The Little Black Dress," or LBD, has now been a staple of the well-furnished closet for nearly a century. I often opt for one for emotional comfort or when I am going somewhere without knowing what the dress code is.

This version of the LBD has clean, elegant lines and provides plenty of coverage for when you don't want to show a lot of skin. This long-sleeved, turtleneck dress from Corvus, one of my long-time favorite stores, has brought a lot of compliments. It is a style that can fit a range of situations, being dressed up or down with shoes, hair, and accessories. I normally pair it with these high-heeled mules from Sheba.

As finishing touches, I have added gold zipper-pull earrings, a gold anklet, and a ring with multiple round-cut and baguette diamonds.

In a wonderfully diverse world we all have a fashion style that is our personal favorite. One of these is the smart office suit. Wearing tailored jackets, waist coats teamed with a skirt/pants. Power dressing is not new. In the years after the 1914-1918 war there was major social progress, and with it social customs were not as strictly adhered too. Womens clothing became more flexible, practical and masculine. Starting with her cardigan-style jackets French designer Coco Chanel led this trend, introducing casual chic to women's tailoring in 1925. Following Chanel's lead another French designer, Marcel Rochas, took suits to another level when he ditched the skirt, and created the first suit for women with pants. Suits were well tailored, jackets with padded shoulders and nipped waists. This was a major breakthrough in womens tailoring, one that has enduring appeal through to today.

Here are two examples modeled by Eli and Jyoti of well tailored, practical office suits for powerful women. These outfits are both designed by French SL designer VALENTINA E.

Early in the 20th Century black was reserved only for mourning. Coco Channel changed all that in 1926 when she printed a short simple black dress in the cover of Vogue Magazine. Quickly becoming known simply as the little black dress or LBD for short. The versatility of the LBD was emphasized when Audrey Hepburn wore it with pearls in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961). Ever since, it has been worn on all occasions with a huge variety of accessories.

QUALITY/ADAPTABILITY AND HUDS by Sara Aldrin-Beverly

I always look for quality and adaptability in an outfit. I have loads of dresses and tops with matching skirts or shorts and a selection of flats and heels, depending on my mood. Style is important and if there is a colour hud then perfect :-)

This is my current favourite outfit, I love the style and texture which means it can be worn for both parties and more formal events too.

For my first post I wanted to share my love traditional Indian fashion. Starting with the oldest, the Sari, which dates from 2800-1800 BC.

I love the sari for two main reasons The first is the drape, the way it hangs in a casual and graceful way enhancing our femininity. The second is the texture of the material, exquisite and delicate. These are also the two main qualities I look for when buying any outfits.

Texture and detail is the first thing I look for in an outfit. A dress or top can be stylish, maybe show a bit of boobage!, but if the texture doesn't have detail then I usually reject it. It also helps that this outfit is stylish and the colour suits me (I hope).

This is my most favourite outfit. The top is crocheted and if you zoom in then you can see the attention to detail that the designer has displayed when creating it. Of course it can't be worn by itself, I'd be banned from the White Pearl if I did and I wouldn't like that. So I always wear it with a matching bikini top to preserve my modesty.

All items are from Tori Torricelli and are sold separately. The top and bikini is Hera. There is a matching skirt, but I preferred a different skirt to wear it with as I find this one more stylish. I could wear a skirt from a different store but the colour match wouldn't be perfect.

The obligatory fishnet stockings are:-

Erratic - Ciri Pantyhose Fishnet, Wide High (Maitreya). I prefer the wider holes and you can buy them for other shaped feet too, but they really set off the feeling of sexiness you get with wearing high heels. They also come with a colour hud so can match most outfits.
